Blind Sparrow
(Chip Davis, Aaron Barker)
Dear God
This prayer is for the blind sparrow, who cannot see at all
Who can only fly the straight and narrow, till he hits another wall
I know that you’ll account for him like you do for every man
But will you take into account he’s done the best he can
I’ve heard that you’re a merciful God of love and sympathy
Then for Heaven’s sake please guide him straight
Or give him eyes to see
And if you will not heal his eyes and stop his wounds from bleeding
Then gently reach into his soul and stop his heart from beating
Now usually religiously I pray for someone else
But this prayer is for the blind sparrow that lives inside myself
Dear God

Nothing Keeps You From His Love
(Chip Davis, Suzanne Gaither Barry)
Deep inside the human heart
There is a voice whispering your name
Telling you that you’re not alone
Lighting the way, always the same
There’s no far away, his hand can touch you
Turn your night to day
There is not a mountain, there is not a valley
Nothing keeps you from his love
Darkness cannot hide you, he still walks beside you
Nothing keeps you from his love
Life can bring some heartache and pain
Laughter and tears, losses and gains
The future lies behind every door
Joy or despair, Sunshine or rain
There is no need to fear
His hand can reach you, he is ever near
Oh — Nothing in creation can separate you
Nothing in the world takes his love from you
In your indecision, he is your provision
Nothing keeps you from his love
Love will not deceive you, he will never leave you
Nothing keeps you from his love

That’s Not What I Meant
(Chip Davis, Michael Boggs)
You’ve gotta learn how to love
Sitting in church singing how I love Jesus
Feeling good about everything
Come Monday morning you’re walking a picket line
You’re carrying a sign that says “God Hates Fags”
What a Drag, when you choose to speak for me
Without any compassion, without Charity
That’s not what I meant, you misunderstood
Love don’t judge, give don’t take
Bless don’t blame, you’ve got it all wrong
When you fail to see the lesson I taught on that tree
Oh you ask for forgiveness, but I’ve never seen you repent
You can’t hate in my name, that’s not what I meant
Some of these young girls that you’re calling murderers
Do you even care they were raped?
Numbly you’ll sit and watch CNN, and at a quarter to ten
We’re Bombing Bagdad, What a drag
You take it so casually, if that’s all it costs for your liberty
You’ve gotta learn how to love, the hurt and confused
You’ve gotta learn how to love, the broken and abused
You’ve gotta learn how to love, how to love, how to love
Yeah that’s what I meant!
Can you understand?
Love don’t judge, give don’t take
Bless don’t blame, you won’t get it wrong
When you finally see the reason I died on that tree
Oh you’ll ask for forgiveness, and I’ll finally see you repent
When you love in my name, yeah that’s what I meant
You can’t hate in my name, that’s not what I meant
That’s not what I meant
You gotta learn how to love
Ooooohhhhh
You gotta learn how to love

There Is A Fountain
(PD — arrangement by Chip Davis)
There is a fountain filled with blood
drawn from Emmanuel's veins;
and sinners plunged beneath that flood
lose all their guilty stains.
Lose all their guilty stains,
lose all their guilty stains;
and sinners plunged beneath that flood
lose all their guilty stains.
The dying thief rejoiced to see
that fountain in his day;
and there may I, though vile as he,
wash all my sins away.
Wash all my sins away,
wash all my sins away;
and there may I, though vile as he,
wash all my sins away.
E'er since, by faith, I saw the stream
thy flowing wounds supply,
redeeming love has been my theme,
and shall be till I die.
And shall be till I die,
and shall be till I die;
redeeming love has been my theme,
and shall be till I die.

If You Were God
(Doug Johnson, Kim Williams)
If you were God what would you do
with every Hindu, Christian and Jew?
Would you just save your chosen few
If you were God what would you do?
And if a Muslim child lay dying
and his mother cried out your name
Would you turn your back and deny them
or would you love them just the same?
If you were God what would you say
when we all stood before you come Judgment Day?
Would you call us your children or cast us away
If you were God, man, what would you say?
If a good man lost his whole family
and then he drank himself to death
Would you reunite them up in Heaven
or would you burn his soul in Hell if you were God?
Oh - If you were God
If you were God,
If you were the boss
And you looked down on a whole world that’s lost,
Would you love us enough to hang your Son on the cross?
If you were God what would you do
with anybody who’s different than you?
Would you just save your chosen few
If you were God what would you do?
What would you do?
What would you do?
Oh - won’t you tell me
If you were God...

Red
(Doug Johnson, Kim Williams, Chip Davis)
Uncle John was KKK, cause he was raised that way
But to me burning crosses and wearing hoods, never made no sense
How can a man that’s white hate a black man and think its right?
Mama said that Jesus died for everybody’s sins
Red the color that he bled
From the nails in his hands, to the thorns upon his head
The spear that pierced his side and every word he said - red
Is it coincidence there is no difference
Cut any man with a knife and see the color that he bleeds.
Remember Calvary, where Jesus died for you and me?
And why is it so hard to see, the only color we need is
That’s the only color running through our veins
So why can’t we just love each other
Cause inside we’re all the same
Red the only color that he bled
From the nails in his hands, the thorns upon his head
The spear that pierced his side and every word he said
Written in red — blood red

Meanwhile Back At The Cross
(Doug Johnson, Kim Williams, Chip Davis)
The Devil laughed and said I’ve won
God has lost his only son
The brightest star no longer shines
Finally this world is mine
Then he gathered all his demons near
And said we have conquered love with fear
Meanwhile back at the cross, all is not lost
Forgiveness is bought with each drop of his blood
That falls to the ground, mercy abounds
His mother Mary’s tears fall down
To see her precious son pay the cost
The Devil said we’ll use their pride
We’ll attack them from inside
Fill their hearts with vanity, ’till their differences are all they see
Black and white, rich and poor
To justify their holy wars
Take a look around
Turn on the evening news
The devil says no way in hell am I gonna lose
Hate is everywhere, love cannot be found
It took me two thousand years, but it’s almost over now

Standing In My Own Way
(Chip Davis, Candy Cameron, Rich Herring)
Time after time I undermine my best intentions
I have to shoot myself in the foot just to get my own attention
Man I can’t fall with that, tell me what’s up with that
There is always a mountain rising that I can’t climb
A river running leaving me behind
Big jagged rocks on the path I walk making it hard to see
But its no mystery, it’s just me standing in my own way.
What will it take for me to break this crazy habit?
I keep my eye on the prize, but I don’t reach out and grab it
Why do I have to be my own worst enemy?
I should just step aside
That’s the one thing I haven’t tried

When I Cannot Speak Your Name
(Chip Davis, Marsha Stevens)
Be with me when I cannot speak your name
I’m choking in a pool of my despair
What if I call and you’re not really there
Is there a chance you’ll love me just the same
When I cannot speak your name
I keep your portrait in a gilded frame
That crucifix just mocks me from the wall
What if I’m really not your child at all?
That terror has extinguished every flame
Till I cannot speak your name
What if I use my final breath to pray
And find you do not answer anyway
Will I only have my self to blame,
Or will you be there, when I cannot speak your name?
I hide my heart where none can reach
Can I not live this life I preach?
The well worn pages burn in the refuse of my fall
Is that book only made of paper after all?
What if my last chance already came?
What if my all is not enough?
If you should call me on this bluff
Ooooh — Still somehow you bear this doubt and shame
When I cannot speak your name
What if I use my final breath to pray
And find you do not answer anyway
Will I only have my self to blame
Or will you be there?
You’re with me when I will not
You’re with me when I dare not
You’re with me when I cannot speak your name

Heaven & 911
(Chip Davis, Billy Davis, Doug Graham)
I wish 9/11 was just another day in September
I wish I could forget a lot of things I’ll always remember
Life as we knew it will never be the same
Waiting for our phoenix to rise out of the flames
Lately I’ve been thinking about Heaven and 9/11 — 9/11
I don’t understand it
They use our precious freedoms to betray us
They hide out in the open
They learned to fly and gamble in Las Vegas
Was it because of something we did or didn’t do?
How can you love an enemy that keeps on killing you?
Lately I’ve been thinking about Heaven and 9/11
Sometimes the bluest sky can hide the darkest clouds
And you can’t see the forest for the trees
A moment of silence can’t redeem the violence
The kind that brings a country to its knees — Lord have mercy
Oh does God just let it happen and turn his face away
To teach us all a lesson because we’ve gone astray?
Lately I’ve been thinking about Heaven and 9/11
9/11, 9/ 11, 9/11, Lord have mercy

God Save Us All From Religion
(Doug Johnson, Kim Williams, Charlie Daniels)
He was building a beer can castle at the end of the bar
He said bud we better get wiser cause we’ve gone too far
We got the Jews and the Muslims, the ism’s, the wasm’s
And ten thousand flavors of Christian
God save us all from religion
Well I sat there stunned as he took a sip of his beer
That barroom philosopher said friend ain’t the truth mighty clear?
There’s a preacher on TV who’s Pharisee greedy
And he thinks he’s a hot politician
God save us all from religion
Ain’t it a shame how the world’s gone insane
How we hate, and we hurt, and we kill in God’s name
Heaven above knows the answer is love
But it’s sure hard to find it down here
We got wolves in sheep’s clothing
Hypocrites, liars and fools
They say you can’t go to heaven if you don’t abide by their rules
Remember religion crucified Jesus when love was his only mission
God save us all from religion
He kept adding cans to his castle till it finally fell
He said friend, left up to religion I’d go straight to hell
But through mercy and faith, and God’s saving grace
I know that I am forgivin’
God save us all from religion
Oh my God, save us all from religion

That’s What I Miss The Most
(Chip Davis, Billy Davis, Jimmy Yeary)
It’s been way too long since I went through these double doors
I wonder who will be sitting in my pew
There’s a lot of weathered faces that I still recognize
I wonder if they recognize me to
I look down the aisle at that old altar
And I think of all the times I’ve knelt and cried
Then I breathe a silent prayer of thanksgiving
God I love the way it makes me feel inside
That’s what I miss the most
The Father, Son and Holy Ghost
The feeling in my soul when my heart overflows
That’s what I miss the most
Brother Johnson testifies
Just like he did back when
And I feel the tears begin to fill my eyes
The preacher talks of Jesus, about his grace and love
And it stirs my heart and makes me realize
This is what I need, what I’ve been missing
I’ve been caught up in this crazy daily grind
How could I have ever been so foolish,
To ever leave this part of me behind?
Softly and tenderly, Jesus is calling me
And how long has it been since I really talked to him
That’s what I miss the most
